ANDA Reflorestamento,"Année Nouvelle Des Arbres" (New Year of the trees), was founded 1999, following a council held by the swiss amazon guide Jean-Pierre Schwarz and the Bau Kayapo Indian Leaders at the sacred mountain of Alter do Chao, in the Para province of Brazil, to preserve natural, historical and cultural ressources of the Amazon.

Located in Santarem in Brazil, Anda Reflorestamento is a reaforestation project and a project export of products coming from the forest in a beneficial way to its conservation.

ANDA Reflorestamento proposes, through its activities, a solution to ecological problems linked to land degradation in the Amazon forest, while developping local economies in dignity for the indigenous peoples.

ANDA Reflorestamento, which is financed by the online donations for plantation of trees, is represented worldwide by the Aquaverde association.

ANDA Reflorestamento is accredited and supported in Brazil by the IBAMA (Brazilian Ministry of Environment).

PHILOSOPHY
ANDA Reflorestamento works along the principle of durable development. Durable development does not only lie on an ecological pilar, but also on 2 other factors of equal importance: the social factor and the economical factor. neither of these elements can develop to thr detriment ofthe others without creating an long term unbalance in the society.

ANDA Reflorestamento also tries to support different projects linked to sustainable development and equitable trade, such as the fabrication of latex bags by the Maguari community and the production of natural massage oils by the Santo Domingo community in theTapajos National Forest.

OBJECTIVE
The Amazon being the largest fresh water reservoir of the world, the main objective of ANDA is the saveguard and conservation of the amazonian fresh water and to insure the perenetity of the natural cycle of water.

ANDA is striving to attain this objective through its reafforestation programme linked to the promotion of economic development of local communities in the region, while preserving the biological heritage and maintaining the environmental balance in the Amazon.

ANDA cultivates degraded lands in collaboration with indigenous pouplations.

In parallel, ANDA sets up nurseries to grow seedlings close to the plantation areas, before they are transplanted during the next raining season.

ANDA propose these young trees for sponsoring, plants them and supervises their growth.

Seed selection is made from original forest trees in collaboration with local communities.

ANDA Reflorestamento founded by Jean-Pierre Schwarz in 1999.

Jean-Pierre Schwarz is the initiator of this pioneer project in reforestation of degraded lands in the Brazilian Amazonia.

He left Switzerland for South America when he was 18 years old, over 25 years ago, and became one of the most famous jungle guides and a staunch defensor of the Amazon Indians. He is today a reference for his knowledge of the forest in this part of the world.

In 1986, Jean-Pierre was adopted by the Kayapo tribe of the Bau, in the south of the PARA state, for whom he faught for numerous years until their land was officially demarcated and handed back to them, over twice the surface of Switzerland of primary forest, the largest single natural mahogani forest in the world.
